Introduction

Stuttgart is the sixth largest city in Germany with a population of about 595,500 people. It is the capital of Baden-Württemberg Land (state). The Stuttgart region is famous for its high-tech industry. Such companies as Daimler AG, Porsche, Bosch, Hewlett-Packard and IBM have their world or German headquarters in this area. The city is sometimes called "the cradle of the automobile" because the motorcycle and the automobile were invented here by Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. It is in Stuttgart and the nearby towns that Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Maybach are produced.
